Drywall
Boards
Drywall, also commonly referred to as sheetrock or wallboard, is a cost-efficient product for use on interior walls or ceiling panels in new construction, renovation and repair work. In residential construction, the most commonly used sizes are 4′ x 8′ x ½. Other sizes, thicknesses and specialty boards may be stocked and/or available by special order. Drywall can be nailed or screwed to wood or metal studs. The 5/8” thick panels offer additional fire resistance where certain fire ratings are required, and their extra thickness can offer increased room to room sound control. Moisture resistant drywall is typically used in areas prone to moisture, such as bathrooms, laundry rooms, basements, garages, kitchens and utility rooms.
Drywall Mud: The Key to a Seamless Finish
Drywall mud, or joint compound, is used to seal joints between drywall sheets and to cover screws or nails for a flawless surface. It comes in two main types:
-
Pre-mixed (Ready-Mix) Mud: Easy to use right out of the bucket, great for DIYers and standard repairs.
-
Powdered (Setting-Type) Compound: Mixed with water on-site and sets through a chemical reaction.
Easy Sand: Fast-Drying, Professional Results
Easy Sand is a type of setting-type joint compound made by USG (United States Gypsum). It’s known for its quick drying time, smooth finish, and easy sanding, making it a favorite among pros and serious DIYers.
Why Choose Easy Sand?
-
Available in different setting times (e.g., Easy Sand 5, 20, 45, 90 – the number represents minutes to set).
-
Less prone to shrinkage or cracking than traditional mud.
-
Ideal for patch jobs, taping, and embedding joint tape.
Pro Tip: Mix only what you can use within the set time. Once it sets, it can’t be reworked like ready-mix mud.
